This chapter describes a study that charts 151 suicide attempters’ past history, life situation at the time of the attempt, & initial & follow-up contacts both in & out of treatment. The attempts were categorized according to the suicidal situation & motivation: stress, crisis, & disorder. Some findings are: a male to female attempt ratio of 1:3, 65% of attempters were white, 82% used ingestants as a method, & the success in referral correlates with the intensity of staff efforts. (CM)
