2792 adolescents attending free clinics in 10 U.S. cities were interviewed regarding suicide attempts. 4% attempted in the current year, 8% in the previous year. Factors strongly associated with attempts are multiple depresssive symptoms, living apart from parents, having a history of conduct problems, having mentally ill family members, repeated drunkenness, & being assaulted, arrested, or incarcerated, These correlates were combined into a guide for clinic personnel.
