120 adolescents were divided into 3 groups; 40 hospitalized suicide attempters, 40 hospitalized nonsuicidal & 40 never-hospitalized nonsuicidal. Comparison of the 3 groups revealed no sig. diffs in age, race, social class, type of peer & family relationship & academic achievement. It appears that more attention needs to be paid to the “coping style” of the adolescent under stressful situations. Most suicidal adolescents in the study experienced great difficulty in coping with angry/sad feelings.
