Correlates of admission for 100 patients < 18 yrs. and 100 > 18 yrs. were compared. Analysis identified variants that predicted the odds of hospitalization for each group. For adolescents these were suicidal tendencies, physical abuse, primary diagnosis of schizophrenia, age & number of attempts. For adults; delusions, aggression, suicidal tendencies & a primary diagnosis of schizophrenia or affective disorder. Implications of these results for acute psych treatment of adolescents is discussed.
