Using a sample of 18 industrialized nations, the present study found that the suicide rate of those nations was related to both the birth rate & the proportion of females in the labor force. The homicide rate of the nations was related to the gross national product per capita, the birth rate, & the proportion of females in the labor force. These results were examined for their fit with predictions from Durkheim (1951), Gibbs & Martin (1964) and Morselli (1882).
