In an attempt to provide an effective means of treating many persons in crisis at a reasonable cost, the Children’s Screening & Stabilization Unit operated 2 programs: beds for acute care & for intensive care. The prime goal was to stabilize, not treat, & all programming was geared to a time-limited plan. Within a structured, supportive environment, family life education was done, & aggressive follow-up was pursued. Peers expedited treatment in intensive groups. (RM)
