In this very brief summary, the author reports on the increase in suicide following the death (by jumping from a tall building) of a promising 18 year old Japanese singer in April 1986. The news of her death received sensational media coverage. Within the next 2 weeks 28 youths completed suicide; the majority were female; 60% were committed by jumping from tall buildings, & most notably, the overall suicide rate in the spring of 1986 showed a significant increase.
