This is a summary of a study to explore the changing suicide risk by sex & age in Sweden using birth cohort analysis. All suicides committed between 1952-81 for those aged 15-79 were included. The major finding is an age-dependent suicide risk change among males with a substantial shift in risk profile toward younger age. The relative risk of suicide for 20-24 year olds has increased 3-6 times & those at highest risk are not longer old males, but middle-aged males. (GW)
