Sorenson S B~~Golding J M
This study examined the lifetime prevalence of suicide ideation & attempts in a community sample of 1,425 Hispanics & 1,309 non-Hispanic whites; & the relationship between psychiatric disorder & ideation & attempts. Fewer Hispanics reported ideation (9% vs. 19%) & attempts (3% vs. 5%) than non-Hispanic whites. More women of both ethnic groups reported attempts than men. Those with a psychiatric disorder were more than 7 times as likely to attempt suicide. (GW)
