This paper provides an overview of suicide in adolescents for pediatricians & makes recommendations for its prevention. For example, pediatricians must become aware of risk factors associated with youth suicide; they should include questions about suicidal thoughts in the routine medical history of adolescents; become familiar with available resources; be able to manage the acute medical emergencies associated with suicide, & they should serve as sources of support for suicidal youth.
