In this paper, the distinction is made between real personal power & illusory power. This distinction is applied to the grieving process; the special case of suicide in the family is examined; the therapeutic implications are discussed. The position is advanced that bereavement counsellors can use the therapeutic opportunity to help their clients reclaim their real power & thereby deepen & enrich their lives & their relationships.
