Letter to the Editor. In response to questions & criticisms of their article “Increased Adrenal Weight & Victims of Violent Suicide”, the authors reiterate that their findings are preliminary & discuss the lack of information on depression subtype; the difficulty of monitoring cortisol levels & DST results; the questionable use of medico-surgical patients as control subjects, & factors other than ACTH stimulation which may contribute to increased adrenal gland size.
