Increasing evidence suggests that demographic variables may be useful in understanding trends in suicide among people aged 15-24. Increases & decreases in youth suicide rates were correlated significantly with increases & decreases, respectively, in their proportion of the population. Using estimates of future proportion of young people, a predictive model of youth suicide was presented. The recent levelling off & decrease in youth suicide rates lend some support to this model.
