This is a summary of the 1988 AAS school program conference. Some highlights of the 3 panels are (1) system entry issues; concerns about the contagion effect, emphasis on coping mechanisms & depression, & the need for suicide awareness programs to be community based, (2) curriculum & program content: the objective should include preparing personnel to handle suicidal individuals, (3) controversy in evaluation: quantify the seriousness of attempts to evaluate program effectiveness.
