This paper provides a brief description of the suicide problem now being faced in Italy. In order to reach a more appropriate understanding of the suicidal behaviour in Italy, the C.R.I.S. (Centro Ricerche Interdisciplinari sul Suicidio) was established. It is affiliated to the I.A.S.P.
