Describes the experience of a social work intern’s reaction to a client suicide. It is suggested that confronting the issue is important in resolving the range of feelings that accompany such an incident. Reviewing the case & presenting it to colleagues can help in working through the pain; encouragement & support from peers are essential. Regression may occur, which is seen as a natural reaction to trauma, and learning occurs while working through the crisis.
