Discusses the psychosocial dynamics of suicide by Black adolescents (15-24 yrs) based on statistical & research literature & clinical experiences of a psychiatrist working in academic & institutional settings in N. Carolina. Suicide rates for Black males & females in this age group are significantly lower than rates for their White counterparts. Significant life events, precipitants of suicide, sociocultural dynamics & etiological factors that lead to suicide among Black youths are discussed.
