The authors describe clinical trails of the antidepressant drug, CIBA 34, 276-Ba, with 534 depressed patients (ages 20-70, 2/3 females, 1/3 males), both inpatients (227) & outpatients (307). Treatment lasted from 30 to 80 days. Suicidal tendencies or thoughts were completely suppressed in 93% of cases; anxiety was dispelled in 75%. Onset of action is rapid, making this drug unsuitable for suicidally depressed patients. The combination of this drug & tacitin is briefly discussed. 5 Refs. (NBB)
