This study was conducted at the Royal Ottawa Hospital, an acute care psychiatric facility, and 3 provincial psychiatric hospitals in Ontario–North Bay, Brockville, & St. Thomas. Case records were reviewed for all deaths among both inpatients & outpatients. 94 native-born suicides were compared with 23 immigrant suicides. Unemployment, lack of a support network, & social isolation were cited as conditions predisposing immigrant suicide. (NBB)
