McLoone P~~Crombie I K
Details of all suicidal deaths in Scotland from 1974-1984 were obtained from the Registrar General’s Office for use in this survey. The authors found several significant trends in their analysis of this data. These include: overall rates for men increased 40%, with the greatest increases found in the 45-64 age group; the well-recognized decline in poisoning by domestic gas was seen during this period; a decline in drug overdoses by women (particularly younger age groups), was evident.
