Immigrants at high risk for suicide are primarily East Europeans who emigrated for economic or family reasons, female, aged 40-50, socially isolated, university educated but unemployed, have a psychiatric history. These are the findings based on a study carried out at the Royal Ottawa Hospital & 3 provincial psychiatric hospitals in North Bay, Brockville, & St. Thomas, Ontario involving case histories of 23 immigrant inpatients & a control group of Canadians.
