Heilig states that although disabled persons are just like the rest of us in terms of life’s problems & disappointments, there are times when the disabled are more prone to suicide. The onset of a disability, chronic pain, the exacerbation of a disability, the perception of discouragement among caregivers, & the withdrawal of needed services are times when risk of suicide is increased.
