Investigated the efficacy of wearing an ear plug in a 42-year-old male chronic schizophrenic with persistent neuroleptic-resistant auditory hallucinations. Beneficial effects were detected when the plug was in the dominant ear only. After 3 months, S. ceased to be suicidal or depressed and had become optimistic about the future and somewhat ambitious.
