This paper reviews the relationship between the use & abuse of substances & adolescent suicide behaviors. The discussion includes prevalence of suicidal behaviors among youth; a review of the direct relationship between substance use/abuse & suicide; indirect associations as they relate to other primary diagnoses such as antisocial personality, borderline personality, affective or depressive disorders & schizophrenia; & clinical & research implications. 119 refs.
