The author offers a point scale for the assessment of suicide risk by those who are less experienced but are nevertheless engaged in suicide prevention. The scale includes 4 basic factors (mental illness, living alone, severe physical disability, & age) used in conjunction with lesser factors such as male gender, living alone, recent financial problems or bereavement, & an attempt using a method including gas, hanging, drowning, throat slashing, or shooting.
