Presents a review of evaluative studies of the efficacy of telephone counselling services, including a discussion of measures of effectiveness & methodological difficulties. There is evidence that such services are effective at secondary & tertiary prevention levels & the author emphasizes that telephone services are an important part of the mosaic of community mental health services.
