The suicidal behavior of 928 psychiatric patients was analyzed to see whether data supports the “trait” or “crescendo” hypothesis of suicide behavior. Observed data showed an excellent fit to the combined state-dependence & heterogeneity model. Findings direct clinicians & researchers to the inherent attributes of the individual that may bear a “suicidal attempt potential”. (LH)
