As part of the quality assurance program, the care of patients admitted to Strong Memorial Hospital after a serious suicide attempt was reviewed using a discharge data base search. Six criteria were used to evaluate quality of care. The review revealed the need for improved documentation in three areas: The seriousness of the suicide attempt, the degree of dangerousness to self at the time of discharge and the outpatient disposition. The findings led to proposed revisions in hospital policy.
