Presents an epidemiologic study on all suicides in a county in northern Sweden from 1961-80. Results confirm other studies which differentiate between an urban alienated pattern & a rural traditional. There was an increase in the suicide rate during the 1970’s alongside the development of a marked difference between different socioeconomic regions. The highest suicide rates are now found in the sparsely populated mountainous areas in the west & in the most rapidly expanding urban area. 12 refs.
