Suicidal Behavior In Halifax, Nova Scotia: With Some General Observations

A brief report of suicide statistics–completed suicide, attempts with lethal intent (a new category) & other attempts–is presented, along with the highest risk group in Halifax County. Suicidal behaviour relative to depressive illness & reactions to stress and/or psychiatric illness is discussed & patterns of behaviour relevant to preventability are described. Reactions of physicians & nurses & the high medical costs of caring for those who attempt suicide are discussed briefly. (LH)
