Romeo and Juliet: Other Endings: A Dramatic Approach to Preventing Youth Suicide
Youth Suicide National Center
The Shakespearean Theatre at the Folger & the Youth Suicide National Center collaborated in a pilot program to examine contemporary issues of teenage suicide in the play Romeo and Juliet. 5 Modules for teachers examine: Timeless Issues, Barriers to Communication, Dealing With Hopeless Situations, Responsibility/Blame/Guilt, and Learning to be Friends for Life. Problem solving by the students creates new endings. A supplementary guide to the play integrates issues raised in the modules.
