Barner-Rasmussen P
An analysis was made of hospital utilization & time of suicide in psychiatric patients in Denmark. Suicidal schizophrenic patients had long hospitalizations & their suicide rate was constant. Patients with reactive psychoses & affective reaction had often only one hospitalization. 40% of the latter group had previously attempted suicide. The highest suicide rates were found among middle-aged and elderly men with manic-depressive or reactive psychoses, and neuroses or personality disorders.
