The mortality pattern of 2157 female registered nurses was analyzed for the period 1963-1977 using death certificate data. Proportional mortality analysis was used to compare mortality among nurses with that of control groups derived from a population of other female workers. Results indicate an elevated risk of death from suicide among registered nurses.
