Consultation between psychiatry & general medicine has become a characteristic of general hospital psychiatric units. A new role has emerged for clinical psychology in this setting & has become as “medical psychology”. The author discusses a clinical psychology consultation-liason service in a general hospital & presents an analysis of 1092 consultations & 4193 outpatient attendances at a psychiatric unit between Jan. 1 & June 30, 1982.
