Dr. Smith demonstrates that certain faulty assumptions about self-destructive behavior have impeded research toward and adequate conceptual model of suicide. He presents a model of adult suicidal behavior, within a dynamically oriented, clinical perspective, that he states is an attempt at meeting the difficult task of creating a conceptual model. (NBB)
