A study of 200 consecutive cases of attempted suicide (92 males, 108 females, aged 15-83) admitted to a general hospital in the years 1950-52 revealed that 58% of this sample had come from broken homes, indicating a childhood lack of affection, insecurity, & gross deficits in parental guidance & influence. 12 ref.
