Trends in female suicide attempts by self-poisoning for the periods 1953-1972 & 1977-1982 are investigated, using official statistics for England & Wales. A decline in frequency ofattempts is seen in younger females & marked by different behavioral patterns are noted in cases of suicide & attempted suicide. 20 ref. (HBB)
