The history of the concept of emotional first aid is reviewed & its integration is discussed. The different degrees of first aid provided by staff at various levels of professional competence is indicated , as are the commoner signs & precipitants of emotional crisis. The case history of a 45 year old female attempter is provided for illustartion of emotional intervention & support. (5 ref)
