A historical review of the Jewish, Christian, Islamic, Hindu and Buddist attitudes of suicide. The evolution to the contemporary Christian perspective is discussed citing contributions of Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas and Donne. Issues realised by life-extension technology are discussed.
