Although the suicide rate for those who have been bereaved by suicide is 3 times the rate of the general population, only 2% of the present literature on self-destructive behaviour deals with the aftermath of suicide. Karen Maxim suggests that the stigma surrounding suicide & attitudes toward self-destruction have prevented needed investigation in the area of postvention. Strategies & intervention techniques that have proven beneficial following suicidal deaths are discussed. (NBB)
