The authors collected data from interviews of all persons (N=114) requesting drug abuse services from the Department of Mental Health, Orange County, for a 1 month period in 1976 to determine the relationship between drug abuse & suicidal behavior. Variables of drug type, treatment program requested, arrests for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driver accidents & non-suicidal overdoses were investigated. 19% had made a suicide attempt.
