The author outlines certain basic understandings that must exist between client & therapist before successful therapy can begin. Techniques used by crisis workers may also be used by therapists. These techniques include eliciting a deision from the client to give up suicide as an alternative solution. This removes the death threat from the relationship & focusses on the possibility for change.
