Investigation of 50 adult female attempted suicides revealed in all cases an unhappy & turbulent adolescence. A sense of failure & an inability to form & maintain satisfying relationships was carried over into adulthood. Patterns of docility lead to depression while acting out lead to hostility. In both, suppressed anger & hostility were manifested in adult suicide attempts.
