This article addresses the problem of psychiatric care of the overdose patient in the emergency department of a hospital. Although the medical emergency is of initial concern, the author claims the secondary concern–psychiatric care–is too often ignored. This situation could be remedied, Schmidt suggests, by increased knowledge about psychiatric evaluation & treatemt on the part of the emergency staff. (16 ref.) (NBB)
