The present research investigated the coping skills of rape victims in order to determine if some women may be more vulnerable to rape than others. Psychosocial competency, mental health, substance abuse, cognitive resources & physical ability were investigated in a sample of 72 rape victims & 72 controls. The best predictor appeared to be social competency: rape victims scored lower on measures of social presence, dominance & assertivemess & higher on external locus of control. (NBB)
