Depression, Suicide, and Aggression in Alcoholics and Their Relationships to Plasma Amino Acids

This study investigates the possible associations between amino acid abnormalities & depression , aggression & suicdal behavior in a population of alcoholics. Subjects (N=43) were male alcoholics, aged 25-50 admitted to an inpatient alcohol rehab. unit. Results of blood biochemistry & psychiatric testing indicated a significant association between depression & aggression. 2 of the 3 suicide attempters fell into the group with an aggression history.
