A hospital suicide prevention program can realistically be addressed only to secondary prevention. The principal goal is one of schooling a cadre of hospital personnel to awareness & sensitivity to suicidal signs & to provide knowledge of intervention techniques & of consultative resources. Whether the program has been a success in broad preventive terms cannot, at this time, be assessed. That the didactic ends have in most instances been met seems evident.
