British Columbians are more likely to kill themselves than residents of other provinces. The rate of suicide in Vancouver is 25/100,000, more than twice the national average & in all of North America, only San Francisco has a higher rate. (1972). Poor economic conditions, geographic environment & population are discussed as causative factors. (NBB)
