A 52-year-old female consummed mahogony seeds in a suicide attempt. She developed profoudbradycardia, cardiac irregularity & vasomotor collapse. Medical treatment involved gastric lavage & I.V. administration of atropine & mephentermine sulphate. Response to atropine suggested the action of the toxic agent is at least in part mediated through the Vagus nerve. Response to vasomotor stimulants suggests this toxin (an alkaloid) is similar to digoxin. (NBB)
