The Effect of Partial Amygdalectomy on Emotional Disturbances and Epileptic Seizures

This paper is a preliminary report on the treatment of emotional disturbances by means of stereotaxic neurological operations on the amygdaloid nuclear complex & the effect of this treatment on epileptic seizures in patients. 24 operations were carried out on 16 patients in whom disturbances were observed in behavior & responses to external stimuli. Depression, anxiety, aggression, rage & suicidal tendencies were present. A marked calming effect & favorable decrease in epileptic seizures follow.
